Presentation Overview

The presentation will examine some of the key legal risks associated with the outsourcing of organizational data and other IT functions to cloud systems with a particular focus on information security and Canadian privacy law issues.

Speakers’ Bio
Nathan Schissel practices in the area of corporate and commercial law with a focus on technology law, outsourcing, procurement, health care law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. Nathan has acted as counsel in a wide variety of technology-related transactions, including business-process and technology-based outsourcing; software and systems implementation, development and integration; systems support and maintenance; reseller and distribution arrangements; internet and ecommerce; cloud services; procurement of information technology and technology transfer. He has significant experience negotiating and drafting software implementation, development and licensing agreements; software and hardware maintenance and support agreements; systems integration and strategic alliance agreements; service bureau agreements; outsourcing agreements and technology transfer agreements.

Jade Buchananis an associate with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP with a practice focused on information technology, intellectual property, and internet law. On the IT side, Jade’s practice includes assisting with the purchase and sale of IT companies and IT products and services. His internet law practice involves domain name protection and disputes, online defamation, compliance with anti-spam legislation, electronic contracting and e-commerce, and copyright matters. Jade is also a registered trademark agent who has experience in trademark applications and prosecutions, licensing, enforcement, acquisition and sale agreements, trademark opposition proceedings, and trademark litigation.
