Don’t Let Future Shock Lead to Cyber Security Breaches

‘Future Shock’ is the study of how societies and individuals cope with ‘too much change in too short a period of time.’ Simply put, when humans are overwhelmed with too much new information, they react with fear and distrust.

The field of cybersecurity is one of the fastest moving and complex fields there is. Future shock can be a very real problem. Take, for example, the core vulnerability issue that hit WordPress earlier this year. Suddenly, a platform that was previously considered secure wasn’t anymore. Millions of users were now susceptible to security breaches and data leaks. Those who weren’t keeping up to date with the latest news might never have known.

The key to stopping future shock? Education.

As part of CIPS Saskatchewan’s ongoing mission, we seek to enlighten the public wherever we can. Our Speakers Series 2021-2022 allows industry experts to share their knowledge. Past topics have included encryption, PCI compliance, the future of tech, and how your organization can adapt and evolve.

On March 24th 2022, our latest speaker Kathy Macdonald (M.O.M., MSc., CPP) will present a session on defense against cybercrime. As a retired Calgary police officer with almost three decades of experience, Kathy possesses a comprehensive understanding of the threats the modern online environment poses. She’ll discuss potential vulnerabilities and how you can protect yourself against them.

After all, the more we learn about cybercrime, the better we can prevent security breaches and maintain data security.

The seminar will be given virtually, starting at 12:00 pm CT. Reserve your spot today. CIPS Members receive a substantial discount on ticketing prices – just one of the many benefits joining our association of IT professionals provides.
